Distress Oxide Inks + Blender Brushes = Ombre Sky ‘Modern Heart’ Card

Gorgeous! That’s what I believe this card earns the title of. It’s from my first try at ink blending with make up brushes. My arm did get a little tired but it was so worth it.

I actually made the background several weeks earlier, unsure of what to do with it. Then the ‘Modern Heart’ stamp set by Stampin’ Up! arrived and I knew it was meant to be. The heart kind of looks like a mapped constellation – don’t you think?

The background was created by blending Distress Oxide inks with make up blender brushes. The brushes I used here I bought from Amazon for a reasonable £11.98, they’re branded Yoseng.

I used the two largest brushes from the set – one for the blues one for the purple. As mentioned, the inks are Distress Oxide from Ranger. You can buy these many places just search the names/colours. The bottom purple is Seedless Preserves, then Salty Ocean for the blue and a tickle of Peacock Feathers at the top. Blended together with the brushes gives the image on the left. A few spritzes of water turns the image on the left, into the image on the right! Magic! This was then cut down to create the background of the card.

The heart is heat embossed in white directly onto the blended background. This is mounted on Smoky Slate card, as is the sentiment (also heat embossed) made with black embossing powder. Both are from the from ‘Modern Heart’ stamp set.

I embellished the top corner with clear droplets (I could also have used Nuvo drops). Then ran white ribbon along the bottom. The bow isn’t actually tied, it’s just folded back on itself and held down with mini glue drops. It’s finished off using a Clear Faceted Gem and the sentiment is mounted with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The ribbon I used is retired, but otherwise supplies are Stampin’ Up! and linked at the bottom of this post.
